A Muslim cleric charged with defiling his three-year-old stepdaughter has been granted a Sh500, 000 bond.
Senior Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache granted Mr Mohamed Ahmed alias Ustadhi bond, following his application to be released on bond pending the case hearing.
The accused, who is also a madrasa teacher, had filed an application to be released on bond after the minor gave her testimony.
The minor, during her testimony, told the court that Mr Ahmed allegedly undressed her and sexually abused her twice.
The minor later on reported the matter to her step-mother, who took her for a medical examination, where it was confirmed that the child had been actually defiled.
“The minor was afraid to stay close to her father. She never got close to him or received him whenever he arrived home from work,” said the step-mother.
Magistrate Mochache while granting the bond to the accused ordered him to stay away from the minor and her mother, until the case is heard and determined.
The magistrate also prohibited the accused from inciting his followers against the minor’s mother or any other witness while preaching at the mosque.
“The accused must not seek for an out-of-court settlement with the minor’s mother,” ordered the magistrate.
The prosecution told the court that the accused committed the crime on diverse dates between July 2013 and 2015 at Kwa Bullo in Kisauni Sub-County, Mombasa County.
The court heard that the accused allegedly commited the act when the mother of the girl had gone to attend to other duties away from home.
The case will be heard on August 22, 2016.
