Apostolic Administrator of the Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Maurice Crowley has faulted the manner in which the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has handled the ongoing mass transfer of secondary school head teachers across the country.

Bishop Crowley said despite the church being a key stakeholder in the education sector, it was totally ignored when the decision to transfer the teachers was being made.

Speaking to journalists after presiding over a Christmas mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret Town, Bishop Crowley who is also the Kitale Catholic Diocese Bishop said the church was not consulted over the transfers.

"Most of the schools whose head teachers have been transferred are sponsored by various churches and it is unfortunate that the TSC and the Ministry of Education decided to make decisions without even considering what the opinion of those church leaders would be," said Bishop Crowley.

This comes even as reports indicate that over 500 head teachers have received transfer letters in what TSC Chief Executive Nancy Macharia said was aimed at enhancing national cohesion and bolstering professionalism and commitment in the teaching profession.

"We have completed the process of reorganising the headship of some schools in the country through staff redeployments in what we have come to refer to as delocalisation.

"We hope this will renew teacher commitments and breathe freshness within schools," said Macharia during the release of this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results last Wednesday.
