Diocese of Mombasa Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Julius Kalu has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to end its internal wrangles in a bid to deliver credible elections.Speaking to journalists in Mombasa on Sunday, Bishop Kalu said the wrangles being witnessed in the commission are giving the electoral body a negative image. The Bishop said IEBC has to set up proper mechanisms to address the issues, adding that failure to do so will have a negative impact on the repeat presidential election.“IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati must sit down and ensure his house is in order even as they prepare for the repeat presidential polls,” said Kalu, as quoted by the Standard. The Bishop also urged politicians to give the commission time to prepare for the election, adding that the pressure being piled on the commission by politicians across the divide will hurt the election. The Bishop, however, asked the IEBC to observe the law as it prepares for the fresh polls. He at the same time appealed to Kenyans to pray for peace, adding that the rising political temperatures are a threat to peace. The repeat presidential poll is slated for October 17.IEBC commissioners and secretariat are currently on a two day retreat in Naivasha to chart the way forward as NASA piles pressure to have CEO Ezra Chiloba and other officials sacked over the bungled August 8 presidential election.
