The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) and the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) have launched a campaign to fight moral decadence in Mombasa County. The campaign aims at curbing negative practices that erode good societal norms.KFCB and CIPK will be targeting young learners in schools and madrassas in the Coastal city. The moral campaign was launched at Markaz Swalihina Madrassa in Kisauni sub-county on Monday.KFCB Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua urged the media not to expose youth to ‘foreign culture’ which may be detrimental to their development in the country.“The media should discourage film contents that are capable of promoting moral decadence in the society,” said Mutua.Mutua said the campaign against ‘ungodly practices such as homosexuality and lesbianism’ is aimed at enabling children to grow to become hardworking, honest and responsible citizens.“We want to stop homosexuality and lesbianism and other deviant behaviours such as drug and substance abuse penetrating education institutions,” he said.He said the two bodies will join hands in fighting the rot of culture threatening to destroy the next generation. On his part, CIPK organizing secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa said religious leaders have a moral duty to fight the increasing cases of moral decadence in the society. The cleric blamed the high rate of moral decadence among the youth in the country on the absence of parental care and family breakups.Sheikh Khalifa also pointed an accusing finger at public service vehicles, which he said play uncensored films and videos that corrupt the morals of school children.
