Clinical Officers have called off their strike for a period of 45 days. They said this is to allow them to give room for negotiations and their quest to ensure the government approves their request to register them under an umbrella union, just like nurses and doctors.
Through their secretary George Gebore, the officers who had joined nurses and doctors in a nationwide strike said the Ministry of health has declined to pay its members what is rightfully theirs, since they do not have a recognised union to fight for their rights.
He on Thursday said they must have an institution that will bargain for them in case of issues of national concern, given that they have close to 20,000 members who have continued to be victimised.
Clinical Officers at the Kenyatta National Hospital downed tools last week, after doctors and nurses kicked off a nationwide strike, demanding for recognition and pay hike.
This forced the Health Ministry to seek services of KDF medical officers to salvage the situation.
Nurses have since called of their strike after striking an agreement with the National and County Governments.
