When Msando left the house early Friday morning to attend a media session and highlight features of the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS), he was a jovial man.

The family says he was happy and briefed them about the day ahead of him.

“He was a very honest and straightforward person. He always told us what his day would be like and later narrate how it went. He was very social and friendly and always told the stories humorously,” said one of his brothers. On this last day with his family, he woke up at 5am to prepare for the media session.

He also informed the family that he had a lot of work at the office.

Then he called home a few minutes after 8pm saying he would be late because of work engagements.

“But when I called him at around 10pm, his phone was off. I was in the house with the children and struggled to put them in bed because they were waiting for their dad. They were so close,” another close relative said.“I tried calling him again and again but all his phones remained off, which was very unusual. But nothing suspicious crossed my mind. I assumed that since he had mentioned having a lot of work at the office, he was simply held up.”After checking with friends and colleagues on Saturday, Msando’s widow filed a missing-person report at the Embakasi Police Station and a search began immediately. The family says they began calling friends and relatives to find out where he could be.

The family remained optimistic that he would return home tired from overworking. Never did it occur to them that Msando was lying in a morgue after a torturous murder.

He is survived by four children.
