Former Subukia Member of Parliament Koigi Wa Wamwere has been the latest leader to fault the ongoing constitutional amendment debate.

The debate has heated up in the recent past, following the recent truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, with a section of leaders allied to the Odinga-led National Super Alliance (NASA) side embarking on a push for the expansion of the executive.

However, according to Wamwere, a close ally of Odinga, the calls are baseless and uncalled for, noting that it is a plot aimed at satisfying a clique of leaders at the expense of millions of Kenyans.

''I do not see any need for a constitutional change. To me it is just a selfish plot aimed at satisfying a group of leaders and has no benefit for Kenyans,'' he said on JKL Wednesday.

''We should not push for a referendum simply to satisfy the political thirst of our political dynasties and families,'' he added.

He stressed on the need for leaders to concentrate on service delivery to Kenyans, noting that things are likely to worsen should the bid to incorporate more individuals into the governing organ succeed.

''National shortcomings cannot be solved by leaders' comfort or presence in government. There is need to shun the referendum debate and address the real reasons ailing the nation,'' noted Wamwere.
