Speaking in Kisii town, Prof Emmy Agok said the same habit is spreading countrywide and within no time all the schools in the country will be burnt down saying it is just a matter of time.

She said as much as the government puts effort to curb the menace those burning schools still find their way to.

She adds that the situation is very risky for students in school for some can get trapped between the fires.

“We are playing with fire. It is even worse at the hands of minors. Are we waiting until we hear a dorm was brought down with the students inside so that we realise we have a problem?” said Emmy.

She added that it is so unfortunate our leaders want to play politics with ‘fire’ assuring Kenyans and parents that the issue is being addressed and the problem is not real as it looks.

“This is a national disaster. This should be given first priority. Schools should be closed and investigations conducted immediately before we lose all our schools,” she said.

Student unrests have been on the increase countrywide with a number of teachers and students arraigned in court on arson charges following the torching of a number of schools.
