Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has hinted at a prolonged injury period for Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama.

The midfielder played only two games this season and picked the injury while training against Burnley in August.

The coach has now said he is not sure whether Wanyama could manage to return to the field this season.

"He's doing well, getting better every day. That is good," he said.

"Yesterday he was training alone, still not with the group, but with the sports scientist and physio. It was good. The reaction from his knee was good.

"He's getting better every day. We'll see if he can be available as soon as possible to help the team.

"I don't know. I cannot guess. It's like [Erik] Lamela, now he needs to feel his knee is safe and good and ready to step up again."
