Religious leaders at the Coast have said they are optimistic their inter-religious peace programme will bear fruits in the fight against radicalisation among youth.
Speaking during an interview with Baraka FM on Friday, Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics board member Fr Wilybard Lagho, noted that incidences of terror attacks in the region and entire nation have reduced drastically due to the role various religious groups have played in the fight against the vice.
Lagho, however, said that they are not in a position to confirm whether youth from the Coast are still being radicalised. He noted that the misconception that all Muslims are violent is a thing of the past, adding that workshops and training programmes have made Christians and Muslims realise that terrorists are out to bring enmity between them. Lagho further said that religious leaders have pledged to corporate with police in order to sensitise residents on the dangers of terrorism and radicalisation.
The religious groups have been organising workshops for both Christians and Muslims with the aim of curbing radicalisation in the area.
