Nurses at the Coast General Hospital are yet to report to work despite the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) calling off the five-month-long strike on Thursday. According to Baraka FM, services in different wings at the facility remained paralyzed after the nurses failed to report to work on Friday as expected.

The strike ended after KNUN, Ministry of Health and the council of Governors signed a collective agreement.  The new development is a reprieve to Coast residents and other Kenyans who have been lamenting of lack of services in most of the public health facilities across the nation.

The nurses led to suffering and death of several Kenyans especially those who rely on public facilities. The government promised to settle the withheld salaries before November 30.  The patients have raised concern over lack of services at the facility.

Nurses secretary general of Mombasa Peter Maroko told Baraka FM that some of the nurses are still at home despite ending the strike.

“Most of them had traveled upcountry and that is why they have not reported, but by 5pm they should have reported.” said Mr. Maroko.
