[Photo|William Kingi]Mombasa County deputy governor William Kingi joined the management of the Coast Provincial General Hospital in marking a major milestone in the life of the Gender Based Violence Recovery Center. The GBVR Center was established in 1997 as an initiative of the hospital to address the plight of victims of gender based violence majority being women and children.On Monday, the center received an international accolade from UNESCO recognising the efforts the center has made in rehabilitating survivors of gender based violence, offering medical services, counselling services and legal counsel to the survivors. "Through our partnership with the International Center for Reproductive Health -ICHR international led by Prof Marleen Temmerman we hope that the center shall reach out to more victims and completely rid our society of gender based violence," said Dr Kingi.He said the County government would persistently engage with stakeholders in the sector to provide more assistance in equipping the centre.
