Hoteliers at the Coast are a happy lot after reaping big from the just concluded August-December tourism season.
In an interview with The Star, PrideInn Group of Hotels managing director Hasnain Noorani said that the hoteliers are now focusing on how to sustain the bumper bookings witnessed a few months ago.
One of the actions they plan to take in order to ensure profits do not fall include the expansion of conference facilities.
Noorani noted that bed occupancy at the Pride Inn Beach Hotel reached an average of about 90 per cent during the festive season after domestic and foreign tourists flocked the region.
“We have guests who have been so impressed that they have already booked for their 2017 December holidays. Our December 2017 bookings have already hit 30 per cent, so we will be looking for about 70 per cent,” he said, as quoted by The Star.
Kenya Association of Hoteliers and Caterers regional executive officer Sam Ikwaye attributed the high number of tourists in the region to aggressive marketing in different parts of the world.
On his part, Kenya Coast Tourism Association Chairman Mohammed Hersi said the massive profits generated resulted from the good road network in the country.
“We have seen more tourists from Arusha and Moshi this year. This is because of the improved road network in the country, including the completion of the Taveta-Voi road,” he said.
