A determined President Uhuru Kenyatta maintains that he will score significantly in the coastal region given his development record in the past four years.
During 2013 elections, Uhuru suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of his archrival Raila Odinga, a trend which he is keen to change.
In his Wednesday’s final tour where he traversed Taita Taveta, Uhuru warned that the region has witnessed a paradigm shift in her geopolitics and is more of establishment than opposition.
“I know I scored badly but that is not the case. You have proven my record,” Uhuru told enthusiastic supporters at Voi.
He added: “Thus this is my stronghold and they must know that. I am sure when you vote me in numbers; they will now claim I have rigged.”
Recent defections from ODM party have largely strengthened Jubilee influence with a number of leaders including Joy Lay, Gideon Mung’aro and Governor Salim Mvurya joining Jubilee party.
But on the other hand, Raila Odinga is working closely with popular Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho whom he banks on to deliver for him.
