With the stage set for the titanic battle for the over 1.7 million votes in the Coast region between the ruling Jubilee Party and the opposition NASA coalition, the two political rivals have started marking their territories ahead of the August contest.Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya who decamped from ODM to Jubilee and is seen as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s point man in the region that overwhelmingly voted for opposition chief Raila Odinga in the 2013 elections is convinced that Jubilee has made significant inroads in the region. While expressing his optimism that the region will support President Kenyatta’s re-election bid, Mvurya said Jubilee Party is more vibrant and visible in the Coastal strip which has long been considered as Raila's political turf.“I want to inform this meeting that the Coastal region has embraced Jubilee Party. We are now more visible and vibrant. The party will now get more votes than it managed in the previous election,” said Mvurya when he addressed a Jubilee meeting attended by leaders drawn from the Coast and Kisii regions. On her part, Taveta MP Naomi Shabaan asked those who lost in the party primaries to work with the winners to enhance party unity.
