Mombasa women representative Mishi Mboko on Thursday told President Uhuru Kenyatta to forget Coast region votes.
Mishi said the region was fully in National Super Alliance’s support and would join leaders from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River and Taita Taveta to marshal support for the opposition alliance.
The ruling Jubilee Party has been making inroads in the expansive region expecting to influence voting partners ahead of the August 8 election.
“Coast region is locked,” she said.
“We are not divided as our opponents think. We are united with one goal- to ensure NASA gathers majority votes. We have been marginalized for long. Only NASA will rescue us," she added.
She was speaking at Uhuru Park during a rally in which the opposition unveiled its presidential line up.
At the event, Raila Odinga (ODM) was declared NASA presidential flag bearer with Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) deputizing the former prime minister.
Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), incase NASA takes over government will be Premier Cabinet Secretary with Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Isaac Ruto (Chama Cha Mashinani) working as his deputies.
Coast is one of the regions Jubilee targets to harvest votes during the August 8 polls.
Uhuru, since being sworn in 2013 has visited the region over five times.
Mishi spoke at a time when a section of leaders from Coast have indicated they will support Jubilee and President Uhuru’s re-election bid.
Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, MPs Naomi Shaaban (Taita), Gideon Mungaro (Kilifi North), Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga) and Masoud Mwahima (Likoni) are among elected leaders from the region who support Jubilee.
