Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, on Monday condemned the killing of the school boy by police, and demanded immediate action to be taken against those responsible.

Speaking during a press conference at Haki Africa offices, Joho criticised officers stationed at Nyali Police Station for failing to record a statement from Ruth Syombua, the victim's mother.

"I am personally heading to Nyali Police Station to compel police to record a statement from Syombua," Joho said.

On his part, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir wondered why police were targeting innocent youth, as we approach the general elections.

"Could it be a systematic way to wipe out the youthful generation? In fact, there are more questions now that we are approaching an electioneering year and we do not want to hear that so-and-so was killed because of political reasons," Nassir said.

Joho announced that the county government would help meet Katana’s funeral expenses.

His body will be laid to rest in Kitui County on Saturday.
