The recent attacks on the Supreme Court by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are unconstitutional, leaders in the Coast region have said.
The leaders, who comprised of the Lamu council of elders, clerics and activists, asked the president to respect the Court’s decision to nullify the presidential election.Led by the Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics (CICC) Lamu branch chair Mohamed Abdulkadir, the team said it is unwise for the president to throw jabs at Chief Justice David Maraga and the other Supreme Court judges for ruling against him. They said Kenya is a democratic nation governed by the Constitution, adding that Uhuru and Ruto should adhere to the rule of law.“Uhuru and Ruto must understand that Kenya is a democratic country and they must also understand that the constitution is pivotal. They must therefore desist from criticizing the Supreme Court and the CJ,” said Abdulkadir, as quoted by Baraka FM.He also said Jubilee leaders should desist from launching scathing attacks on the Judiciary and instead hit the campaign trail in preparation for a fresh election.“They should stop threatening the CJ. Right now we know that if anything happens to the CJ, its them. Look at the hate and spite in their words and faces each time they speak about Maraga or the Supreme Court. They should respect the court and wait for election day,” he added.
