A section of leaders from the Coast region have pledged support for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming general election.
Lead by Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro, the leaders said Coast residents will vote for Jubilee because of the development projects the government has implemented in the past four years.
Mung’aro, who led a delegation of Chonyi and Kauma elders from Kilifi County, thanked the President for the way he has steered the affairs of the country.
Addressing the delegation at State House Mombasa, Mung’aro said a lot of infrastructure development has been undertaken at the Coast, something that has not happened since independence.
“No one can ignore what the Jubilee Government has done at the Coast. The days of empty promises by the Opposition are over,” said Mung’aro.
The outspoken MP cited various projects being undertaken in Kilifi such as the 100km Mariakani-Bamba-Kiwandani Road, 110km Malindi-Sala Gate Road, 48 Km Kaloleni-Mavueni, Mazera-Kwazengo Road joining Malindi Road and the 63km Sabaki Bridge-Marafa-Baricho Road, among others.
On his part, Kilifi South MP Mustapha Idd said during the Coalition Government, money was allocated for the Ronald Ngala Utalii College and Kilifi-Ganze Mariakani road, but was later misappropriated.
He said the projects only started after the Jubilee Government took over power.
Ganze MP Peter Shehe said: “Currently, 75 per cent of my constituents are connected to the national grid. Our children who used to graze cattle are now back to school and the latest national exam results have shown tremendous improvement.”
The delegation had visited the President over administrative boundaries they want aligned, but on electoral boundaries, the President told them that was the mandate of IEBC.
Responding to issues raised by the elders of the two communities, Uhuru said there is need to reach consensus so as to build trust in solving challenges whenever they arise.
