Doctors at the Coast have lamented unpaid salaries for the period they were on strike despite President Uhuru Kenyatta instructing governors to pay the doctors. In an interview with Baraka FM, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union officials said they are yet to receive their salaries.KMPDU Coast region deputy secretary general Dr Nikoh Gichana said the doctors will have no choice but to take an unspecified action if they do not get remunerated as promised.“The president said they should pay the salaries, up to date we have not received the money,” he said as quoted by the daily. Gichana also said the Union has been informed that the Kilifi County government has started negotiations with the medical practitioners but he was not sure whether they have been paid or not. Council of Governors chairman Peter Munya had earlier said that the doctors should not expect to be paid for the period they were on strike.“I know I had vowed not to pay these people for the days they were on strike. But for the sake of peace, I have asked governors to pay them so that we can all move on,” said President Kenyatta during his tour in Kiambu.
