Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s call for National Super Alliance (NASA) to hold joint nominations has received support from five Coast MPs.Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Mishi Mboko (Mombasa Woman Representative), Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita), Badi Twalib (Jomvu) and Hassan Mwanyoa (Matuga) have all said they are ready to hold joint NASA nominations as the opposition looks forward to unseating President Uhuru Kenyatta in August. The legislators said NASA has to field only one candidate in the various positions including the governor's seat, in order to beat Jubilee. The MPs argued that Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has been opposing the idea of joint nominations because he knows Joho will trounce him during the primaries. This comes after Omar, who is also the Wiper secretary general, said the party is a strong outfit that is well prepared to field candidates in different elective posts during the next general election. On Tuesday, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka backed Omar's sentiments and ruled out the idea of joint primaries.“We want to give everybody an opportunity to present themselves to the electorate,” said Kalonzo, as quoted by the Nation. On his part, Amani National Congress (ANC) said that the alliance will hold joint nominations but in a unique way to avoid fallout. “The planned NASA joint nominations will be an exception, and not the rule,” said Mudavadi at the ANC office on Tuesday.
