Keen to counter President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Jubilee Party foray in the six Coast counties, the ODM brigade in the region kicked off their intensive tour of the area.
Led by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, the leaders began their charm offensive in Taita Taveta County which recently lost Senator Dan Mwazo and Women Representative Joyce Ley to their fiercest rival, Jubilee Party.Joho who has of late been at the receiving end of the Jubilee Party onslaught used the occasion to stage a fightback even as he denied insulting the President. Instead, he said that the President has no mandate barring him from attending public functions in his own county.Accompanied by his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi and the host Governor John Mruttu, Joho claimed that there is a plot by the Central government to stifle devolution by undermining the Governors.Kingi who has equally been at loggerheads with the Jubilee government, said the Uhuru Kenyatta-led government has nothing to show in the region, and accused the President of riding on projects initiated by counties to gain political mileage in the area which he said is firmly in opposition. On his part, Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu said that the Jubilee Party forays in the region will not translate into votes come August.
