The government has announced that a water project expected to serve coast counties of Mombasa, Kilifi and Malindi will be completed by December this year.
According to State Department for Water Principal Secretary Fred Segor the project will solve perennial water problems in the three counties.
The Baricho Water Project was scheduled to be completed in July this year but did not meet the intended deadline.
The government has however now assured that phase one of the project will be completed in December this year.
Segor says the project is expected to ensure steady water supply to more than 200,000 residents in Malindi, Kilifi and Mombasa Counties, where Mombasa County will have a dedicated waterline that will pump up to 50,000 cubic meters of water daily to the coastal city.
The project which is in final stages will included the sinking of new wells and the setting up of water treatment facilities at Baricho Water Works at a tune of Ksh 570 million.
