With Deputy President William Ruto keen to ascend to the Presidency in 2022, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has pledged Coast region's support in his bid for the country's top seat.

Speaking at the Bomet Stadium on Saturday during a Jubilee Party rally, Mvurya who is facing a daunting task in his bid to defend his seat said the Coast region which is seen as an opposition stronghold will rethink its political stand in future. With the 2022 politics taking center-stage during the rally, Mvurya said the DP should bank on Coast region's support as they will fully rally behind him (Ruto)."I want to assure you Deputy President that Coast will fully support your Presidential bid in 2022 because we are tired of being in opposition....In future, we want to be in government to bring development to our people," he said.Mvurya who alongside Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro set in motion the ODM defection wave in the region is seen as a Jubilee Party point man in the coastal strip. However, his latest utterance may put him on a collision path once again with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who has equally declared that he will vie for President in 2022.
