[Photo/kenyanlife.com]A section of coastal leaders has railed against the proposed privatisation of the Galana-Kulalu Irrigation project.They have said that the plan does not have their blessings and they will oppose it.The privatisation move, according to the state, is aimed at efficiency.20000 acres of the land will be issued out to private firms.Legislators drawn from Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Tana River said there was something fishy in the move, calling for the land to be given to pastoralist communities.''The project is failing because it was initially conceived for grazing and not agriculture,'' MP Ali Wario said yesterday.The multi-billion shilling Galana-Kulalu Irrigation project straddles Kilifi and Tana River Counties and is part of the Vision 2030 development agenda.
