Coffee farmers in Kangundo Sub-County were yesterday advised against selling their harvests to broker dealers who offer them very low prices leaving the farmer at a loss while they make enormous profits.
Speaking on Thursday in Kangundo town during a farmers’ forum, the chairman of Kitwii Cooperative Society Musyoki Luusa urged the farmers to take their produce in the factory where they will receive fair prices.
“Farmers should avoid dealing with brokers who buy the fresh coffee at a throw away prices and in return sell it at great profits leaving the farmers who have toiled in losses,” said Luusa.
The residents who own farms in Kangundo have been encouraged to plant coffee as it is can boost their livelihoods and development in the region.
Luusa further explained that in the past years parents paid school fees for their children using income earned from coffee farming.
“if coffee farming is done with the dedication and seriousness, the income is great and we can use the money earned
The farmers have also been encouraged to join coffee cooperative Saccos to access loans and different training on the crop farming.
