Coffee farmers in Gatundu North have been urged to take the advantage of the competitive market prices and free their coffee products for sale in far-off countries.
The area Member of Parliament Francis Kigo Njenga on Thursday while meeting the farmers in Kanyoni said that the national government had set best grade coffee that attracted massive demand in Europe adding that farmers should maximize their produce to reap big.
Kigo quantified that low quantity in the sub county had reduced due to poor coffee management in the country. He however affirmed farmers that proper-permanent measures had been brought by the national government to completely exterminate hullaballoos surrounding coffee management.
He further assured farmers that the market was constant adding that Kenya was not meeting the demand for coffee export.
‘The government has also provided subsidized inputs which you should only use to maximize your crops for more returns. Am also delighted that the price has gone up to Sh 45 which I believe will motivate your efforts to maximizing coffee produce,’ Kigo said.
He reassured farmers that coffee farming had transformed from an activity of sustaining families to a huge profit making business.
"I urge you to take the coffee farming as an income generating project to assist in growth of the crop," added the MP.
