Coffee farmers in Gucha south district are counting losses the theft of more than 100 coffee sacks from Nyamarambe coffee farmer’s society.
The incident occurred amid leadership wrangles that have seen the society stall its progressive operations.
Gucha south district commissioner Geoffrey Mayama said that the incident was reported to his officers in the morning by watchmen who were guarding the premise.
“It is ironic that people who are entitled to take charge of the structures are the same ones reporting,” Mayama said.
He said he wondered how the thieves were able to take all the 100 sacks through the neighbour’s compound without watchmen knowing.
The neighbour, whose fence was destroyed to pave way for transportation, was arrested with the watchmen as investigations are underway. Area member of county assembly Reuben Moreka sought the intervention of the investigation officers on top management of the coffee society for their leadership wrangles might have been the cause of the incident.
