The Council of Governors chairman Peter Munya has condemned the attack on Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto.
In a statement on Tuesday, Munya, who is the Meru Governor, termed the Sunday attack by police as brutal and barbaric.
The COG boss further stated that the council will not condone any acts of police brutality on duly elected leaders.
He made the remarks in Nairobi after visiting Ruto who had undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital. He has since been discharged.
Munya said police brutality is an abuse to the human rights of all citizens, adding that they should instead focus on maintaining peace and stability in areas such as the cattle rustling prone regions like Kerio Valley where people are being killed or maimed.
He warned against misuse of the police by instructing them to silence dissenting voices.
