The council of governors has formed a ten-member committee to front dialogue over the current political stalemate.
The governors say the committee will focus on the reconciliation and healing of the country after the divisive electioneering period.
The bipartisan path taken by the county bosses seeks to front dialogue as a means of toning down the divisive politics and threats of a swearing-in by the opposition national super Alliance of its leaders Raila Odinga on 12th of December.
They said time has come for leaders of goodwill to walk the talk and bring this nation together.
“We believe that there is the need for us Governors to apply ourselves as instruments of peace in the country in light of the prevailing political circumstances. We are leaders on our right and therefore implore on all leaders to come together and seek ways to cool political temperatures,” Council of Governors chair Josphat Nanok said.
The committee comprises of Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok, Siaya Governor Cornell Rasanga, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, Kakamega’s Wycliffe Oparanya, Bomet's Joyce Laboso, Uasin Gishu’s Jackson Mandago, Kitui’s Charity Ngilu, Nyandarua’s Francis Kimemia, Meru’s Kiraitu Murungi and Kwale’s Salim Mvurya.
The governors want leaders to desist from perpetuating polarized agendas and instead focus on national progress.
The county bosses held a meeting in Nairobi to discuss among others the implementation of the nurses collective bargaining agreement and strategies for improving cancer healthcare at the county level.
On Wednesday, the governors decried the perennial delays in the disbursement of county funds by the National Treasury citing lack of goodwill by the national government in realizing the spirit of devolution.
The CoG chair, Josphat Nanok, said the delay has left all the counties in a precarious position where operations had to be scaled to near close down.
Nanok said the untimely release of funds has been the biggest hurdle in the implementation of devolution.
