Governors are asking the national government for money to pay doctors.
The medics have not been paid for the 100 days they were on strike.
Council of Governors chairman Peter Munya on Wednesday said counties do not have money to pay the doctors for the period they were on strike.
“The money that we would have paid the doctors was used to buy medicine and support faith-based institutions in the counties. We do not have extra money to pay the doctors as soon as possible,” Munya said.
The CoG boss said the national government promised to help them pay the doctors.
“We seek the government to meet its promise because we have not refused to pay the doctors. All we need is for the national government to dispatch the money and we will pay them,” he said while addressing the press in Nairobi.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Wednesday said he will not pay the doctors in his county who participated in the strike.
"How do you get paid when you haven't worked?" the ODM governor said during an interview on Citizen TV.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had directed the county bosses to pay the doctors for the period they downed their tools.
