Construction works for the Sigiri Bridge in Budalang’i constituency which collapsed in June 2017 is ongoing and the investment will be launched in mid-2018.Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala on Tuesday said engineers at the project have promised to apply modern construction technology to ensure it lasts for long.Masons were injured after the Sh1.2 billion bridge which was under construction in Budalang'i collapsed on June 26, 2017.The bridge, linking Bunyala South and North, came down barely days after President Uhuru Kenyatta inspected construction works.Uhuru, during his tour of Busia County on June 14, 2017, hailed the project saying it will ease movement of people to schools and markets in the area.“Construction works at Sigiri Bridge going on well. The project will be done by mid-2018,” MP Wanjala posted on his Facebook page.While commissioning the construction last year, Uhuru said he was concerned with the numerous boat tragedies in the area.“This bridge will significantly reduce deaths and make it easier for the residents to access markets, schools, and hospitals,” the President said then.Then area MP Ababu Namwamba came under sharp criticism when the bridge collapsed as residents blamed the contractor for doing shoddy work.
