Silvia Ong'era, Valerie's classmate, said during a fundraiser at Boruma SDA Church in West Mugirango, she had been assisting Valerie to get her around the school and even during meals.

"She has been suffering all through since we joined Form One but the situation worsened in fourth form. She could strain in reading and even found it difficult to serve meals by herself," said Silvia.

She added that despite Valerie's illness, she has been studying hard and scoring highly in her exams till when the situation deteriorated.

"We believe and pray that Valerie comes back to school soon. She is jovial and always like our class pastor, we miss her and hope she will get well soon and resume to prepare for her KCSE examinations," added Silvia.

Valerie is set to undergo a cornea transplant at PCEA Kikuyu Eye Clinic. The fundraiser was organised by Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama's wife, Naomi where over Sh1 million was raised.
