A Business Management student at the Kiambu Institute of Science And Technology (KIST) was found murdered in her rented house in Kiambu.
The act was allegedly committed by her boyfriend who is said to have been forcing her to have an abortion.
The 22-year-old Mercy Mugo was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood that flowed through the door which alerted the neighbours.
Martin Kipkoech a neighbour and a student at KIST said that as he went to the shop he saw blood coming from the house of the deceased.
“I immediately called my fellow neighbours and we broke in to see what had happened only to find her lying on the floor with a kitchen knife nearby,” said Kipkoech.
Rachel Wambui, the sister to the deceased described the incident as being brutal. She explained that her sister had revealed to her that she was pregnant but the boyfriend was asking her to abort.
“She kept telling me she couldn’t agree with the boyfriend over the issue and they had differences for a few days before the brutal murder. Yesterday, she called me and told me they were to meet in her house and talk about everything. That’s the last time I heard from my sister,” said Wambui.
Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich confirmed the incident saying that the deceased was stabbed twice on her chest with a kitchen knife. He said that cases of brutality among college students was on the rise in the region.
“Last week we had an incident similar to this where two students from Kiambu Institute of Management had a fight in their house and the boyfriend attempted to murder the girlfriend over cheating issues,” he said.
He added, “I want to warn students against these acts of crime as it will land them in serious trouble and cut short their dreams. It will not be good for a parent to see their child being sentenced after all the effort they put on the student.”
