The county government should take responsibility and cater for funeral expenses of two workers who had lost their lives near Gusii Institute of Technology (GIT), the institution’s students have demanded.

On Wednesday evening, GIT students barricaded Kisii-Keroka road and demanded an address by the county leadership which never happened before collecting a minimum of Sh500 per vehicle that was using the road as ‘rambi rambi’.

Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Thursday, they vowed to reignite skirmishes similar to those witnessed after the tragic accident if Governor James Ongwae remained mum over the issue.

They insisted that no burial will take place without the government of Kenya and the county leadership taking responsibility over the deaths.

“It is melancholic that our two workers who were killed by an irresponsible officer on road carnage can continue lying in a morgue without an action by the county government. Both levels of governance must take the responsibility and give them a decent burial,” said Nyabuto Momanyi.

“No one will take the body from Kisii General mortuary before our demands are heard. We will protest till they respect humanity,” added Kevin Ombogo.

They said the two women who were working as chefs in the college came from poor families and had left behind orphans who should be taken care of.

“I think we are justified as comrades. Time has come for justice to prevail and we want justice for the family of our workers. They left behind young families that need someone’s support therefore, we must ensure they get justice,” Ombogo added.
