Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Mohammed said all learning institutions in the county have been advised to put in place security strategies to guarantee safety of students.

He said the security measures are targeting all learning institutions and not universities alone.

“I will be meeting board of directors of middle level colleges to discuss their security preparedness,” he said adding that the county government is taking security of schools seriously.

The county commissioner added that a meeting with security officials and school heads will be convened later this week.

He said the national government has deployed several police officers to universities and colleges across the county. The officers, Mohammed said, will be conducting patrols in schools and neighbouring towns and estates.

He urged students to concentrate on their studies saying that their security has been guaranteed. “There is no need for students and teachers to fear. The government has fully taken up the responsibility of providing security,” he said.

There have been concerns from education stakeholders concerning safety of students especially in boarding schools after the April terror attack on Garissa University College where at least 148 students were massacred by militants.
