Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore’s contract has been extended by two years.
Collymore's tenure was extended by the firm's board.
The board cites efforts in steering the mega company through difficulties since just recently, the world leading mobile money transfer Mpesa, experienced a technical hitch.
Collymore was appointed to his current position in October 2010, taking over from Michael Joseph, even though he had been sitting on the company’s board before while he served as the Governance Director for Africa at Vodafone.
Initially, he was to serve an initial contract of three years which was renewed for a further two years in 2013.
Besides his job as CEO, Bob is a leading socio-economic commentator on the continent; he has seen the company grow to generate more revenue and high profits in the Kenyan market.
