Suspended Kisumu County Assembly majority leader Samuel Onyango Ong’ou has today been charged before a Muhoroni court with assaulting three police officers and inciting members of the public against them.
Ong’ou was also charged with resisting arrest before senior resident magistrate Aswam Opande who ordered him released on a Sh50,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh20,000.
He was charged with assaulting John Nyangara, Kenneth Odongo and Japheth Kiplanga at Paw Tenge on May 11 2015.
Ong’ou was also charged with inciting the public against the officers which was meant to result in their injury on the same day and place.
Justice Opande said that mentions have been dispensed with in the case while it be heard on June 30 this year.
And in another court, Ong’ou was released on a Sh2 million bond or cash bail of Sh1 million by Kisumu principal magistrate Tom Obutu in a case in which he, and seven other people, have been charged with corruption.
Obutu had ordered that he be placed in custody for one day in order to pave way for investigations into the assault case of the three officers.
Prosecuting counsel Lazarus Kituryo had applied that he be denied bond since arresting him would be very difficult.
He said two officers were injured when they attacked by members of the public when they went to arrest Ong’ou at his residence.
