NASA leader Raila Odinga's bid to galvanize his traditional Luo Nyanza political base has received a major boost following the decision by former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo to rejoin ODM.

Midiwo had ditched ODM in April after losing to Elisha Odhiambo in the party primaries. But even after vying as an independent candidate, the former Minority Deputy leader in the National Assembly lost his seat to an ODM candidate.

Alongside former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo who also lost in his bid oust Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, the two leaders have had bad blood with the former Prime Minister.

However, on Saturday, while on a campaign trail in Bondo, Raila reached out to the two and other independent candidates in the county who lost in the last month's poll to join him in his quest for the country's top seat.

"Even those who vied as independent candidates are our people. We need them to galvanize our support in this region. We want everybody, including those who vied for various elective seats as independent candidates," Raila said.

And in response, Midiwo who attended the rally vowed to throw his weight behind the NASA leader ahead of the repeat presidential poll.
