In the recent weeks, the DP has openly opposed changes to the constitution, even though details of the two leaders remain scanty.

At Nyamira on Thursday, senator Okong'o Mogeni accused Ruto of waging early campaigns, insisting that the move was not well informed.

"We are busy building bridges yet someone has started campaigning. We must first embrace nationhood before 2022 debate," he said.

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, who apparently had initially backed Ruto, challenged the DP to support the peace deal before thinking of 2022.

"What the country needs now is healing after the protracted electioneering period. Campaigns should only reflect on unity and the DP needs to slow down," he said.

The leaders had gathered in Nyamira primary during a requiem mass for 9 victims of the deadly Narok accident.
