Reverend Gowi Odera of the South Nairobi Chapel during a church service said on Sunday that most couples getting married run broke shortly after wedding a development he says sometimes leads to separation.

"Do not get broke while trying to get married," Rev Oder said to the applause from the congregation.

"Come tell me, you want to get married and I will do it for free during our church service. The venue is free and the witnesses (congregation) is free."

He was speaking while officiating a wedding ceremony overseen by hundreds of people at the church.

He said there are high profile couples whose marriages he has seen collapse shortly after wedding as the husband and wife ran broke.

Rev Odera said it is illogical to show off by "wasting" money on an event that only depletes bank accounts leaving people broke.

He said his church organizes weddings fro free.

"You only notify me on your plan to wed and fix a date for the event and leave out the rest for me. I will bless your union," he said.
