Salgaa Traffic Base Commandant Koki Mwonga has cautioned motorists using the Salgaa-Kibunja stretch against over speeding.
The commander who was speaking to the press today accused some motorists of speeding while using the highway.
Mwanga warned that motorists who are fond of flouting traffic rules will be arrested and taken to court.
He added that traffic officers have been deployed along the highway to deal with errant motorists.
“We want to warn motorists who flout traffic regulations that they are going have it rough with us,” he warned.
The commander said that traffic regulations must be obey and by every road user including pedestrians must adhere to rules.
Mwonga said accidents have been rising in the recent past and warned that police will not relent on errant drivers.
The commander said that surveillance will be streamlined ahead of the Easter celebrations and more officers will be station on the highway.
He added that they are working closely with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to ensure road regulations are adhered to.
He said that various measures including installation o f speed cameras along the highway and use of breathalysers to crack the whip on drivers who drink and drive.
