The Mombasa county environment department has given commercial entities 20 days to acquire and display garbage bins in a bid to curb the garbage menace in the county.Mombasa Environment CeC Dr Godffery Nyongesa Nato said the move is aimed at keeping the coastal city clean.Mr Nyongesa issued a warning to the entities saying if they fail to display garbage bins, the environment department will suspend their licenses.Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Mr Nyongesa said the county had decided to implement the waste management act of 2017 which calls for the transfer of waste by waste generators to persons licensed to collect waste.“Waste generators which are mostly households and commercial entities and property owners are required to have waste bins on their property and their premises and estate,” said Nyongesa.The Environment CeC also gave the waste generators a 20-day ultimatum to acquire and display the waste bins whose specifications are handled bins with 23 cubic feet by 2.5 cubic feet.Mr Nyongesa further said that the county had given a seven-day ultimatum to private waste handlers and transporters to register themselves with the department of environment.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
