Uasin Gishu county Commisioner Abdi Hassan has urged parents to take good care of their children especially when schools have closed.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Hassan said parents have failed in their mandate of taking care of their children making them get involved in evil acts such as indulgence in alcohol and premarital sex.
"Parents should ensure that they monitor their children, know their friends and keep them busy to ensure that they do not loiter around in town aimlessly taking alcohol and involving in premarital sex," he said.
He said any child who will be found loitering around in pubs will be arrested together with his or her parent.
"If we find your child moving aimlessly and involving in evil acts, we will arrest him and thereafter arrest you as a parent and charge you with child neglect since you have failed in your mandate of taking care of your child," he said.
He gave a warning to pubs selling alcohol to minors that they will be arrested and their pubs closed indefinitely.
"There are some pubs and restaurant fond of selling alcohol to minors, I give a warning to them that they either stop or we arrest and prosecute them thereafter snatch their licences since they are putting the lives of children in jeopardy," he said.
He urged the public to stay vigilant and report any pub selling alcohol to minors and promised that stern actions will be taken against them.
