The DCC says that cases of suspected child kidnaps are on the rise.

The DCC further wants locals who have house-girls to be on the lookout saying that some house girls could be collaborating with child kidnappers.

Speaking to journalists in Thika on Tuesday, Muthamia said that at least three cases of child kidnap have been reported in the area within the last two months.

He observed that in most cases house girls collude with unknown people to kidnap the children under their care and later demand for ransom.

“We are urging locals to be on the lookout and report suspicious people or acts to the police for immediate action,” he said.

The DCC said that locals have to be vigilant especially this time when schools are closed for the December holidays.

Mr Anjere warned that police will hunt down perpetrators of child kidnaps and other crimes.

He stated that police patrols will be increased especially this time when schools have closed for the December holidays.

On Friday last week police rescued a nine-year-old boy who had been kidnapped by unknown people in Kabati, Murang’a two weeks ago.

The boy was found in a house at Kisii Estate in Thika town on Friday.

According to the police, the kidnappers had demanded ransom from the parent’s boy. Detectives working on intelligence raided the suspect’s house and found the boy.

A search for the kidnappers has since been intensified across Thika and neighbouring areas.
