Ruiru Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Mercy Gatobu has faulted wines and spirits retailers for increased consumption of illicit drinks in the area.
Gatobu said most of the wines and spirits shops open early in the morning which is against the law.
She added that the wines and spirits are licensed and it will be hard for the security officers to fight the second generation brews.
Mohammed Abdi, the sub-county administrator, has vowed to work hand in hand with the area residents to fight crime and drug abuse in the area saying that illicit liquor will lead to increased criminal activities.
Abdi said he will soon be meeting the Nyumba Kumi initiative leaders to come up with measures to reinforce security during the festive season.
Earlier the administrator disbanded the sub-county liquor board and formed a new one which was approved by the Kiambu county assembly to continue with the fight against the brewing and selling of second generation drinks.
He said anyone caught contravening the Mututho laws will be charged.
The two were speaking from the sub-county hall on Tuesday.
