Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim has called for residents' cooperation in ensuring security is enhanced in the county, ahead of the seventh edition of the East Africa Community (EAC) Parliamentary games in December.
Addressing journalists on Thursday during the launch of the games in Mombasa, Maalim said high levels of security will be key in ensuring the games are held successfully.
“We are happy to host this year’s edition of the EAC Parliamentary games. This is a big step that will ensure our county economy improves through small businesses and tourism,” said Maalim.
“We have put in place enough security measures to ensure the event runs smoothly without any interference. We, therefore, plead with citizens to help police in maintaining high levels of peace and security, before and after the event,” said Maalim.
The launch was also attended by members of the parliamentary sports committee, who said the event will be key in maintaining international relations and peace through sports.
The Committee chair Wafula Wamunyinyi said cooperation between Mombasa residents and stakeholders will ensure the games are held without any destructions.
“These games will help us solve conflicts in different countries through donations and prayers to enhance unity and international relations in the East African countries to increase economy in all countries,” said Wafula.
