Athi River deputy county commissioner Albert Kimathi has urged local leaders to help fight against illicit liquor in Athi River sub-county.
Addressing the public at his office compound in Athi River town on Monday, Kimathi said the fight against the illicit trade and insecurity cannot be successful without combined efforts from all leaders.
“I have been contemplating on strategies so as to reach the sub county’s leadership, but the leaders are not coming to my office,” said Kimathi.
Kimathi said Mlolongo division especially and the town was becoming unmanageable hence appealed for support from all the region’s stakeholders to help in cracking down illicit liquor businesses in the region.
“My appeal to you is to visit me in my office as a leader so that we can talk, we cannot manage to fight and ensure security in the sub-county without multisectoral approach,” said Kimathi.
Kimathi also urged the area Member of parliament Patrick Makau to help him mobilise the community members alongside other leaders from the region so as to help in the campaign against illicit liquor.
He said there were so many unregistered bars in the region.
