Mongo spoke in Nakuru on Tuesday afternoon during the launch of a crackdown on illicit liquor in a meeting attended by the multi-agency committee, administrators, top police officers in the county and the judiciary.

He said the fight against illicit brew is a collective responsibility that should be undertaken without anyone being compromised.

“For sustainability and for success in this endeavor, we are saying that every Kenyan should be brought on board but specifically those holding key positions to this initiative be it the police, the enforcement officers from county, the multi-agencies and the administrators to work as a team,” he said.

Mongo added that the multi-agency will work closely with the administrators on the ground to ensure the exercise is successful.

“This is an initiative under the Ministry of Interior that will involve multi-agency team to work together in the fight against illicit liquor. Unlike before when we focused on demand and consumption side, this time round we will focus on the suppliers,” he said.

Under the initiative, the administrators will identify areas within their jurisdiction that are notorious with illegal drinks before the multi-agency team moves in with crackdown exercises.

Apart from Nakuru, the initiative is also being carried out in other 24 counties.
