In a media briefing with journalists at his office over the weekend, Birik said that the claims are false, unfounded and serious, and that investigations have been launched into the claims.

“The allegations that the county is using Mungiki to harass hawkers are not true, those are very serious allegations,” said Birik.

He further warned that stern actions will be taken against those found to be spreading false information, adding that eviction of hawkers is being conducted through the appropriate channels, and that no illegal groups are being used in the exercise.

Meanwhile, Birik wants residents to support police security initiatives aimed at fighting crime and lawlessness.

Birik stated that security officers are committed and ready to work for the people, urging the residents to reciprocate.

“Our officers are committed to their work, what we only want is good relations with the public,” he said.

The commissioner further said that they are working with public and private institutions in order to come up with more ways to combat crime.

He said that the county will continue to work with the national government as it strives to promote security and peace.
